Skype for Business coming to Windows Phone on 15th May 2015
Last November, Microsoft announced that it was rebranding and retooling its enterprise messaging solution, Lync, as Skype for Business, and then launched the new brand last month. One of the problems in our increasingly cross device and cross platform world is that rebrands become increasingly more sophisticated, as branding must be changed all over the place. Microsoft is moving relatively quickly to get the new brand out there, with the latest advance coming in the form of a new Windows Phone app for Skype for Business.
The app, according to a post over at Windows Central, is set to launch this Friday, May 15th, and may be most noteworthy in that Microsoft is releasing a Windows Phone app before either an iOS or Android one. If this proves out, it will be one of the few cross platform apps that Microsoft has actually released for Windows Phone first, a welcome change of pace.
The Skype for Business app, which was spotted as a “dogfood” (for internal testing) app just a couple of weeks ago, promises voice and video messaging over wifi, instant messaging, conferencing and calling features all utilizing rich presence features, and all in a familiar, easy to use interface.
