Microsoft confirms once again that new hardware is needed for Continuum for phones

Like Joe Belfiore in an earlier video, Microsoft Insider Program chief Gabe Aul has now also confirmed new hardware is indeed needed, presumably for the same reason related to dual screen functionality. Listening to Gino’s statements, it seems he was referring to not requiring a new dongle, with standard miracast hardware being sufficient for projecting the screen.
The news is of course disappointing, and we do wonder if hardware which Microsoft is selling as Windows 10 ready, such as the Lumia 640, comes with support for these technologies built-in. We will reach out to our Microsoft contact to confirm the presence or absence of this feature.
