How to Install Windows Phone Power Tools 2.5.5 on Windows 7?

Use the below trick to get it working on windows 7

The Windows Phone Power Tools are a natural extension to the developer tools that come with the Windows Phone SDK. Instead of allowing you to only install developer xaps the Power Tools let you test update scenarios by allowing you to update an existing developer app. Instead of having to step through the IsolatedStorage file browser on the command line, the Power Tools provide a GUI to allow you to interact with your applications.

Trick to install wp8.1 suppoted version of wppt 2.5.5 on windows 7 :

Step 1 – Install this lite version of Windows Phone 8 SDK and it’s prerequisites from here (works on Windows 7, includes Developer Unlock and stock WP8 SDK XAP deployment)

Step 2 – Install Visual Studio Express 2010 (yes 2010 not 2012) from Visualstudio.com

Step 3 – Download Windows Phone Power Tools

Step 4 – Now Power Tools should install, since it has the required resources, albeit older ones, to install.

Step 5 – Uninstall Visual Studio 2010 if desired (you can by opening it’s install thing again). Not necesarry I don’t believe. 

Step 6 – Enjoy WPPT on Windows 7 =D

If you get this error “Microsoft.smartdevice.connectivity version 12 be installed in Global Assembly cache” Install Usb drivers found here
